Baseball Falls in Late Innings at No. 3 Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE – No. 3 Arkansas scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, breaking a 4-all tie in an 11-4 win over the University of South Carolina baseball team Sunday afternoon (March 23) at Baum-Walker Stadium. The Razorbacks took all three games in the weekend series.

Nathan Hall gave the Gamecocks the lead for the first time on the weekend as he took the second pitch of the game over the wall in right field. Beau Hollins then led off the second with a home run to Carolina’s bullpen in left field, giving the Gamecocks the 2-0 lead. Arkansas answered with a run in the second on Ryder Helfrick’s solo home run and a run in third on Charles Davalan’s home run to left.

Arkansas took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and a fielder’s choice. In the top of the seventh, Beau Hollins was hit by a pitch and Evan Stone doubled to left. Both runners scored on Will Tippett’s double in the right center gap. Thomas hit the two-run home run in the eighth inning, his third of the year.
