Gamecocks Drop Series Finale Against Texas Tech
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 11/10 South Carolina softball team (24-6) dropped its series finale, 6-5, against No. 12/12 Texas Tech (24-9) Sunday (Mar. 23). The Gamecocks had already won the series, 2-1, with a pair of victories on Friday and Saturday.
The game saw an early end in the middle of the seventh due to a drop-dead time of 2:30 p.m. for Texas Tech to make their flight home.
Nealy Lamb made the start for Carolina and put on a solid show in the circle. Lamb tossed three scoreless innings with a strikeout, allowing two hits.
The Gamecock offense got going early, loading and clearing the bases in the top of the first. Abigail Knight and Natalie Heath hit back-to-back singles to score four runs combined. Heath tacked on her third RBI of the contest with a double to left center in the bottom of the third.
The Red Raiders scored a trio of runs in the top of the fourth inning and another three in the top of the fifth, taking the lead with a suicide squeeze.
Kadie Becker, Jori Heard and Sam Gress (7-3) all entered the circle following Lamb. Becker and Heard split the fourth inning duties, while Gress went three innings with three strikeouts to close the game.
South Carolina will be back at Beckham Field on Tuesday to take on Clemson in the Palmetto Series Presented by the South Carolina Education Lottery at 6 p.m.
