
Baseball Hosts Tennessee This Weekend
FOR STARTERS
- Carolina hosts No. 1 Tennessee for a three-game SEC series starting Friday night (March 28) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park.
- Friday’s game starts at 7 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday’s games at 4 and 5 p.m., respectively.
- Friday and Saturday’s games will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
- Sunday’s game is televised on SEC Network with Tom Hart and Chris Burke on the call.
- All three games also will be on the Gamecock Sports Network presented by Learfield with Derek Scott and Stuart Lake on the call.

SCOUTING TENNESSEE
- The Volunteers are coming off a 14-3 win over Queens on Tuesday night. Blake Grimmer had five RBI in the win.
- Gavin Kilen leads Tennessee and is second in the SEC with a .431 batting average and has a team-best 10 home runs.
- On the mound, Marcus Phillips is 2-0 with a 1.47 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 30.2 innings pitched.
- Tony Vitello is in his eighth season as head coach at Tennessee. He guided the Volunteers to a 2024 national championship.
SERIES VS. TENNESSEE
- Carolina leads the all-time series with Tennessee, 67-48, heading into Friday’s game.
- Tennessee won all three games between the two teams last season in Knoxville.
- In the last meeting at Founders Park, the Gamecocks won the middle game of the three-game series, 6-1, in seven innings in 2023. Braylen Wimmer had two hits and Jack Mahoney struck out nine in the win.
- The last time the Gamecocks faced the number-one team in the country was last year’s Tennessee series on May 16-18, 2024.
HALL OF HITTING
- Junior Nathan Hall continues to lead the Gamecocks at the plate this season.
- Hall has a .398 batting average, good for ninth in the SEC, to go along with four home runs and 23 RBI.
- Hall is slugging at a .592 clip and is reaching base 47 percent of the time.
- Hall leads the team with seven steals and has added seven doubles.
- In Sunday’s game against Arkansas, Hall led off the game with a home run and had three hits on the day.
- It was the first time a Gamecock led off a game with a home run since Will McGillis in the 2023 Gainesville Super Regional.
- Hall then had three RBI, including a home run in the first inning, on March 25 against North Carolina.
- Hall carries a 16-game hitting streak and a 19-game reached base streak into Friday’s game.
EVANS REMAINS PERFECT IN 2025
- Junior Jarvis Evans is a perfect 3-0 with a 3.42 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 26.1 innings pitched this season.
- He went six innings in a 4-3 win over the College of Charleston on March 18, striking out five and allowing just one run.
- Evans had a spot start in Sunday’s game against Arkansas, pitching three innings and allowing two runs.
- Evans has the longest outing by innings this season, going seven strong at The Citadel on March 5.
PETRY SHOOTS UP CAREER HOME RUN LIST
- Junior Ethan Petry will enter the Tennessee series with 50 home runs at Carolina, which has him in second place on the all-time home run list.
- The Land O’ Lakes, Fla., native had 23 home runs in his freshman season in 2023, then followed that up with 21 his sophomore season.
- Petry has been named to the preseason All-America second team by both D1 Baseball and Perfect Game, the third team by the NCBWA, was named to the Preseason All-SEC first team and is on the Golden Spikes Award Watch List.
- Last season, Petry hit .306 with 21 home runs and 53 RBI while leading the team with 51 walks. He was named to the All-Raleigh Regional team.
- Petry is 12 home runs away from tying Justin Smoak (2006-08) for the all-time mark.
- Petry had a solo home run in the first inning on March 25 against North Carolina in Charlotte.
- The junior is hitting .359 with eight doubles, a triple, six home runs and is tied for the team lead with 23 RBI.
