Gamecocks Drop Series Opener to Tigers

BATON ROUGE La. – No. 10/11 South Carolina (25-7, 2-5) dropped their softball series opener to No. 3/3 LSU (31-2, 6-1) Friday night (Mar. 28) 11-3 in five innings.

Arianna Rodi’s hit in the fifth inning extended her on-base streak to 24 games. In all, five different players recorded a hit for Carolina.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead with four runs in each of the first and second innings. The added three more runs in the third.

The Gamecocks rallied in the fifth as Abigail Knight led off with a single. One out later Brooke Blankenship walked and Emma Sellers was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Quincee Lilio lifted a fly ball the center, allowing pinch runner Chloe Lackey to score from third. Karley Shelton and Arianna Rodi followed with back-to-back RBI singles up the middle, before the final out was recorded.

Nealy Lamb (6-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits in 1-3 of an inning.

The second game of the series will be tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
