Baseball Falls to No. 1 Tennessee, 7-2, on Sunday Afternoon

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team fell to No. 1 Tennessee, 7-2, Sunday afternoon (March 30) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park.

Carolina took a 1-0 lead after one inning of play as Jase Woita brought in Nathan Hall with a single to left. The game remained that way until the top of the fourth as the Volunteers scored three runs off of four hits. Tennessee added two runs in the fifth to make it 5-1.

The Gamecocks plated a run in the sixth as Gavin Braland scored Beau Hollins with a single to the gap in right. Tennessee ended the scoring with back-to-back home runs in the seventh.

Kennedy Jones had two hits to lead Carolina’s offense. The loss went to Matthew Becker, who allowed three runs on four hits in 3.2 innings of work.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Every position player had at least one hit for the Gamecocks in Sunday’s game.
  • Carolina hit .312 in the Tennessee series.
  • The Gamecocks left 11 men on base in Sunday’s contest and hit into three double plays.
