Gamecocks Fall to Razorbacks in Series Finale
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 10/11 South Carolina softball team (32-10, 7-8) dropped the rubber match of the series Sunday (Apr. 13) to No. 12/10 Arkansas (31-9, 10-8) 5-4.
Ella Chancey led the way for Carolina with a pair of hits on the day and three RBIs. Karley Shelton also collected two hits in the game. Arianna Rodi extended her on-base streak to 34 games with a walk in the third inning.
The Gamecocks jumped out to an early lead in the second on a two-run home run from Ella Chancey after Lexi Winters was hit by a pitch to start the inning. The Razorbacks answered with a two-run home run of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Carolina strung together a pair of hits and a pair of walks to retake the lead in the third. With the bases loaded, a fielder’s choice off the bat of Winters brought home Emily Vinson. Chancey followed with a single through the left side of the infield to score Karley Shelton.
Arkansas added a run in the bottom on the third on a wild pitch and tied it in the fourth on a leadoff solo home run. They would push across the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on a bases loaded hit by pitch.
Sam Gress (8-6) took the loss, throwing three innings in relief, allowing two runs on three hits.
The Gamecocks head to the Upstate for the second game of the Palmetto Series Presented by the South Carolina Education Lottery Tuesday (Apr. 15) at 7 p.m. on the ACC Network.
