Gamecocks Fall to Texas in Regular Season Finale

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 21 South Carolina women’s tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 14 Texas, wrapping up the 2024-25 regular season on the road. The Gamecocks took an early lead after clinching the doubles point but were unable to follow through in singles play.

The Garnet & Black came out swinging as Sarah Hamner and Kaitlyn Carnicella cruised to a 6-2 win over No. 24 Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo and Ashton Bowers. Texas responded with a 6-1 victory from the No. 3 position over Misa Malkin and Lauren Friedman which left it down to Olympe Lancelot andBella Bergkvist Larsson at the second line.

Lancelot and Larsson fended off a comeback attempt from their opponents who fought back from a 5-3 deficit to tie it up 5-all, winning two straight games to pull out a 7-5 victory and get the Gamecocks an early lead.

The Longhorns switched gears in singles action, winning four matches in straight sets to bounce back for the victory. Anna Claire Roof dropped fell first 2-6, 0-6 to Char Kempenaers-Pocz which allowed Texas to level out the match at 1-all.

The Longhorns then quickly jumped to a 3-1 lead with victories on courts three and five within moments of each other. Malkin lost 1-6, 1-6 shortly before Larsson fell 2-6, 4-6.

The win happened on court two with Sabina Zeynalova topping Carnicella 7-5, 6-2.

The Gamecocks begin post season at Auburn for SEC Championships this week. The bracket will be released later today.
