Baseball Shuts Out The Citadel on Tuesday Night

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team recorded its fourth shutout of the season as four Gamecock pitchers struck out seven batters in a 4-0 win over The Citadel Tuesday night (April 15) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park.

Jackson Soucie, Tyler Pitzer, Ashton Crowther and Parker Marlatt allowed seven hits and walked just three batters. Pitzer earned the win, allowing a hit in 2.1 innings. Soucie was the starter, allowing three hits with five strikeouts and a walk. Crowther had his second stellar outing, allowing just one hit with one strikeout in 2.1 innings. Marlatt pitched the ninth and struck out a batter on a hit.

KJ Scobey opened the scoring with his fourth home run in the second inning. Carolina scored three runs in the frame as Ethan Petry’s RBI single and a Beau Hollins bases loaded hit by pitch made it 3-0. The Gamecocks added a run in the third on an RBI single from Gavin Braland.

Henry Kaczmar had two hits, including a double, to lead the Carolina offense.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Kaczmar has now reached base in 20 straight games.
  • Carolina had its first shutout since a 1-0 win over Morehead State on March 9.
  • Crowther has retired 14 of the 15 batters in the last two outings against Texas A&M and The Citadel.
