Gamecocks Face Kansas in First Round of NCAA Tournament
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team begins the 2025 NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon, facing Kansas in the first round at 1:00 p.m. The event is hosted by UNC at the Chewning Tennis Center.
Gamecock Notables
- The Gamecocks are 14-11 overall this season and went 9-8 in conference play. The team is 9-2 at home and 3-7 for away matches.
- South Carolina made it to the second round of the SEC Championship, first defeating Mississippi State 4-2 before ultimately falling to Texas by the same margin. Misa Malkin went 2-0 in singles during the tournament, winning her matches against both teams. The Gamecocks No. 1 and 3 doubles teams also went undefeated.
- The team has two student-athletes representing the Garnet & Black in the latest ITA rankings. Sarah Hamner is No. 15 in singles with a 19-10 record while Kaitlyn Carnicella is No. 47 in singles, holding an 18-11 standing. The two Gamecocks achieved their highest ranking as a pair in doubles at No. 10 with a 12-7 record. The team received a ranking of No. 28.
NCAA Tournament History
- This marks the Gamecocks 30th consecutive NCAA appearance. South Carolina has booked a spot in the tournament every year since 1995.
- The Garnet & Black have advanced to the Round of 16 or better five times as well as two trips to the quarterfinals in 2009 and 2019.
- Head coach Kevin Epley has led the team to the tournament every season with the Gamecocks.
- Last season South Carolina narrowly fell to Old Dominion 4-3 in the Round of 64.

- Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse Van Vuuren represent the team in the rankings, sitting at No. 31 in doubles with a 24-10 overall record. The team is No. 40.
- Mulville is the No. 1 singles player, holding a 14-7 record from the top of the lineup.
Series History
- The Gamecocks have only faced Kansas once in program history in 2015 when they topped the Jayhawks 6-1.
