Women’s Tennis Opens 2025-26 Season This Weekend

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team begins its Fall 2025 campaign this weekend at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic for the fifth-consecutive season. Taking place at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C., the event runs Fri., Sept. 12, through Sun., Sept. 14, with select courts streaming video live throughout the weekend.

The event will take place across three doubles and six singles flights with players from Alabama, Clemson, Furman, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Penn State, Texas Tech and Wake Forest joining the Gamecocks. Friday’s action, set to begin at 9 a.m., includes two rounds of doubles and one of singles. On Saturday, players will face one round of each, and Sunday’s action wraps up with one round of singles.

Six Gamecocks will make the trip to Greenville, led by preseason No. 24 Kaitlyn Carnicella, who will play in Flight 1 singles. The junior went 19-11 in singles in her first season in Columbia, earning a spot on the All-SEC Second Team. In doubles, she drew All-America honors after going 17-11 and ranking as high as No. 10 in the nation.

Sophomore Bella Bergqvist Larsson is set for Flight 2 singles after going 13-8 in dual matches last season for the Gamecocks. Singles Flight 3 includes freshman Sara Borkop, and Flight 4 features sophomore transfer Taylor Goetz. Freshman Jane Dunyon will make her college debut in Flight 6 singles.

In doubles action, Carnicella and Bergqvist Larsson will pair up for the second time in their careers to play in Flight 1. Dunyon and Gotez will represent the Gamecocks in Flight 2, and Borkop and veteran Lauren Friedman will play in Flight 3.
