Gamecocks Complete Day Three of ITA Regionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – South Carolina completed the second and third day of the ITA Carolina Regionals and will see five Gamecocks returning for Sunday’s round of competition in Chapel Hill.

The Gamecocks kicked off Friday’s competition with four doubles wins, highlighted by a dominant 8-1 victory over Gardner-Webb from Lauren Friedman and Sara Borkop. Daniela Piani and Taylor Goetz grabbed a doubles win as they defeated Simone Bergeron and Mariana Eding from Elon, 8-5.

Friedman and Borkop kept their momentum rolling on Saturday, cruising past Furman, 8-3, to punch their ticket to the round of 16.

On Friday, third-seeded Kaitlyn Carnicella picked up a win as she defeated her opponent from Charleston Southern, 6-3, 6-2. On Saturday, Carnicelli advanced to the round of 16 as she defeated Romana Cisovska from Clemson, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.

Jane Dunyon bounced back to claim the tie-breaking set 7-6(5) and defeat Candela Yecora from Clemson. In the round of 32, Dunyon suffered an injury, forcing her to retire the match. Bella Bergqvist Larsson battled hard in her own match against fourth-seed Anna Zyryanova but ultimately fell 6-4, 6(5)-7, 6-2.

Tomorrow’s round of 16 field will feature Carnciella in the main draw singles and Jana Stojanaova in the singles consolation. Doubles action will be highlighted by Friedman/Borkop and Bergqvist Larsson/Carnciella.
