Baseball Defeats Charlotte in Fall Game

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team defeated Charlotte, 18-6, in a 12-inning fall scrimmage on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 2) at Founders Park. The Gamecocks hit four home runs on the day and held the 49ers scoreless for the first six frames.

The Gamecocks got on the board in the second with a KJ Scobey two-run home run. Carolina added five runs in the second as Dawson Harman and Talmadge LeCroy homered. LeCroy’s was a three-run shot.

The home runs continued in the fifth as Erik Parker hit a two-run blast to left field to make it 9-0 Gamecocks. Beau Hollins made it 11-1 in the eighth with a two-run single. Parker put Carolina up 12-2 in the 10th on a double in the gap in right field. Carolina scored one in the 11th on Logan Sutter’s RBI groundout, then had five runs in the 12th, highlighted by two-run hits from Parker and Tyler Bak.

The Garnet and Black used eight pitchers on the day and five of them had scoreless outings. Alex Philpott earned the start, striking out two and not allowing a hit in two frames. Bradley Hodges had three strikeouts in his two scoreless innings. Cullen Horowicz and Hudson Lee combined for a shutout fifth frame. Josh Gunther had three strikeouts in two innings and Logan Prisco pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of baseball.

Parker led Carolina’s hit attack, going 4-for-5 with six RBI and three runs scored. LeCroy drove in three while Hollins and Jake Randolph had two hits apiece.

Carolina will travel to Riley Park, home of the Charleston Riverdogs, to face the College of Charleston on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available through the Riverdogs ticket office. [TICKET LINK]
