Baseball Bests College of Charleston in Fall Game

CHARLESTON – The University of South Carolina baseball team allowed just three hits and the Gamecock offense scored runs in six of the nine innings in an 8-1 win over the College of Charleston Thursday night (Nov. 6) at Riley Park.

Carolina threw seven pitchers on the night and struck out nine Cougars. Riley Goodman and Amp Phillips had three strikeouts apiece while Parker Marlatt did not allow a hit in 2.1 innings.

The Garnet and Black struck for a run in the first after KJ Scobey’s RBI double. Luke Yuhasz brought in a run in the second on a single. Carolina then struck for a run in the fifth as Dawson Harman singled to left to score Erik Parker.

Talmadge LeCroy made it 4-0 in the sixth with an RBI single to left. The Gamecocks then scored twice in the eighth on Patrick Evans’ inside the park home run, the second in as many years in a fall game against the Cougars (Beau Hollins in 2024). Carolina ended its scoring in the ninth as a fielder’s choice and throwing error plated two. The College of Charleston ended the shutout in the ninth, scoring a run.

Ethan Lizama was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Harman was 3-for-4. Yuhasz and LeCroy had two hits apiece.

The Gamecocks will scrimmage next week, starting with a Sunday night (Nov. 9) game at 7 p.m. at Founders Park.
