Gamecocks Secure 11 Wins, Two Program Records at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. (Dec. 5, 2025) – South Carolina Track & Field jumpstarted the 2026 campaign with an early tune-up meet on Friday as the Gamecocks secured 11 wins and two program records at the Clemson Opener. In addition to the wins, South Carolina combined for 13 new Top 10 program marks.

Seven of the team’s 11 wins came from the women’s squad as well as six of the 13 Top 10 identifiers. Eight-time NCAA Division II Champion, Alexis Brown, made her presence felt in her first meet as a Gamecock by winning both the 60m (7.22) and the 200m (23.58). The Georgia native ran 7.21 in the preliminary round of the 60m, ranking second in school history. JaMeesia Ford and Zaya Akins flexed their muscles in the 300m as Ford (36.25) held off Akins (36.27) in a photo finish for the win, with Akins’ time improving on her second place ranking in program history. The final win on the track for the women came from sophomore hurdler Joslyn Hamilton who ran 8.18 (8.172) in the 60-meter hurdle finale, holding off fellow teammate Kyndall Harrington-Spain who clocked 8.18 (8.178). The pair are now tied for seventh all-time in Gamecock history for the 60-meter hurdles.

Three Gamecock women accounted for victories in the field events, including freshman jumper Tristen Harris who jumped 6.26m (20-6.5) in her long jump debut, ranking fifth best in program history. Harris also ran in the 200m, clocking 23.78 for the runner-up finish behind Brown. The final two wins came from veteran athletes, Cameran Gist and Hannah Togami. Gist recorded a new personal best in the indoor triple jump, jumping 13.03m (42-9) to leap into fifth all-time in Gamecock history. Togami was able to vault 3.94m (12-11) for her first win of the season.

On the men’s side, there were four wins, two program records and a total of seven new Top 10 marks. The first program record to fall was the 300m as Tyson Williams was able to cross the line in 32.32 for the victory and the fastest time on record since 2010. Devan Crumpton (32.67) and Josiah Wrice (32.78) were on his heels as they finished second and third, with Crumpton sliding into fourth all time and Wrice into fifth. Freshman sprinter Andrew Salvodon was responsible for the eighth fastest 300m on record, running 33.46 as he placed eighth overall.

The men’s 4x400m record fell on Friday afternoon, a record dating back to 2019 that featured Olympic Gold Medalist Quincy Hall. Wrice, Crumpton, Salvodon and Jasauna Dennis were able to capture the gold with a new program record time of 3:04.39, besting the previous record of 3:05.68. Crumpton and Salvodon were able to run sub-46-second splits in their respective 400m sprints with Crumpton running 45.15 in leg two and Salvodon posting 45.79 in leg three.

The final two wins and Top 10 advancements belonged to Ricky Circelli and Logan Montgomery. Circelli, a sophomore distance runner, turned in a new personal best in the 1000m after crossing the finish line in 2:28.12 for the eighth fastest time in Carolina history. Montgomery, a Florida transfer, won his first event as a Gamecock in the shot put after throwing a personal best distance of 18.55m (60-10.5) for eighth all time in school history.

South Carolina will be back in action tomorrow as a group of distance athletes will travel to Boston, Mass. to compete in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Opener beginning with the men’s mile at 12:20 p.m. The rest of the team will take a one-month hiatus and return to the track on Jan. 10, 2026 for the Gamecock Opener at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex.
