Jathiyah Muhammad Captures SEC Weekly Award

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Jan. 13, 2026) – Following a dominating home opener, South Carolina Track & Field newcomer Jathiyah Muhammad has been named the SEC Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week. The award was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Muhammad made both her collegiate indoor debut and her Gamecock debut on Saturday at the Gamecock Opener and did so in style after tying the program record in the women’s pole vault. The Arizona transfer captured the women’s pole vault title when she cleared 4.35m (14-3.25), tying Hailey Sweatman for the program record set in 2020. In addition, Muhammad now ranks fourth in the NCAA this season in the women’s pole vault.

Muhammad and the rest of the Gamecocks will return to action on Friday, Jan. 23 and Saturday, Jan. 24 when they compete in the Orange & Purple Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
