Gamecock Track & Field Brings the Heat Ahead of Winter Storm
CLEMSON, S.C. (Jan. 23, 2026) – It was another successful outing in the Upstate for the Gamecock Track & Field squad at the Orange & Purple Invitational. The winter storm condensed the weekend meet into just one day but that didn’t stop Carolina as the men’s and women’s team combined for 30 personal bests, 19 program Top 10 marks, eight wins and three program records.
The women’s team saw 18 new personal records in addition to 12 program Top 10 times, five wins and one new program record. The Gamecocks kicked things off in the women’s 1000m where there were five new Top 10 program times. Jade Buridon led the charge with a runner-up finish, crossing the finish line in 2:43.85 for the new top time in Gamecock history. She was followed by Eline Mast (2:44.17), Abir Reffas (2:44.60), Sylvia Chelangat (2:48.93) and Abigail White (2:49.13) who finished third through sixth, respectively. Mast and Reffas crept into second and third on the all-time list for South Carolina, while Chelangat and White slid into fifth and sixth.
The women secured four wins on the track and one in the field events. Jathiyah Muhammad was the lone field event winner as she captured the title in the women’s pole vault after clearing 4.29m (14-0.75). On the track, Zaya Akins picked up the first win of the day in the women’s 400m with a new personal best mark of 51.15 for a new facility record and the top time in the NCAA this season. In addition to her NCAA leading time, Akins now ranks second all time in program history.
The women’s 60-meter hurdles squad showed out on Friday as the finalist swept the medal count. Joslyn Hamilton registered a new personal best of 8.10 for the win, ranking second in program history and fourth in the NCAA this season. She was followed by freshman Kyndall Harrington-Spain who clocked 8.11 to sit third in program history and seventh in the NCAA. Akala Garrett rounded out the women’s 60mH finalists with a personal best mark of 8.14 to rank seventh in school history and ninth in the NCAA. The final individual winner of the day for the Gamecock women was Alexis Brown in the 60m sprint. The Lenoir-Rhyne transfer matched her personal best of 7.18 for the victory, moving into second in school history and third in the NCAA this season. JaMeesia Ford made her 60m collegiate debut and finished third, running 7.29 for the ninth best time in program history.
The women’s 4x400m relay squad polished off the performance with a win and the seventh fastest time in the NCAA this season as the quartet of Akins, Kymora-Lee Williams, Ford and Garrett clocked 3:32.63.
As for the men’s team, there were 12 new personal bests, seven Top 10 program marks, three wins and two program records. Just like the women, the men’s 1000m squad kicked things off in style. Jaouad Khchina captured the title with the second fastest collegiate time ever recorded, crossing the line in 2:17.36. Khchina’s mark set a new program record as well as a Clemson Indoor Track facility record. He was followed closely by Edouard Lecrivain (2:21.67) and Kaleb Burroughs (2:23.80) who jumped into second and third all time in school history.
Tyson Williams accounted for the other individual title, doing so in the men’s 200m. Williams has shown his prowess in the 300m and today he did the same in the 200m with a time of 20.47 for the top time in the country and third fastest mark in school history. The men’s 400m squad continued its string of strong performances to start the season as Josiah Wrice led the way with the fourth fastest time in school history of 46.05 to finish third overall. Andrew Salvodon finished right behind Wrice with a time of 46.28 for the seventh fastest indoor 400m, while Jasauna Dennis came in fifth after running 46.47. The trio of sprinters now rank inside the Top 10 in the NCAA this season: Wrice (5th), Salvodon (6th) and Dennis (8th).
Dennis, Devan Crumpton, Williams and Salvodon closed out the meet with a new program record in the men’s 4x400m relay after crossing the line in 3:04.15 for the final win of the day for the men. The quartet now rank first in the NCAA this season, just ahead of the secondary squad of Wrice, Crumpton, Salvodon and Dennis who sit second in the NCAA with a time of 3:04.39.
South Carolina remains on the road next week for a two-day meet in Fayetteville, Ark. as the Gamecocks compete in the Razorback Invitational. This will be South Carolina’s lone trip to Fayetteville prior to the NCAA Indoor Championship that will be hosted at the Tyson Indoor Track Center on March 13-14.
