Gamecocks Conclude Opening Day of Carolina Classic
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Feb. 6, 2026) – South Carolina Track & Field started off the weekend with day one of the Carolina Classic at the Shelia & Morris Cregger Indoor Track back home in Columbia. On the first day, the Gamecocks competed in eight events, finishing with four wins.
For the women’s team, they recorded two wins and three Top 10 marks. In the 3000m, the Garnet and Black took the top three spots with Teresa Cherotich, Emma Torbert and Anya Arroyo. Cherotich claimed the win crossing the finish line in 9:31.27. Torbert and Arroyo turned in personal best times, while advancing up the all-time leaderboard as Torbert ranks eighth (9:31.79) and Arroyo sits ninth (9:32.82).
In the 60m dash Tristen Harris took the win for the Gamecocks clocking a personal best time of 7.29, earning the ninth fastest time in program history. JaMeesia Ford finished as the runner-up with a time of 7.36. In keeping with the infield, Kyndall Harrington-Spain placed second in the 60mH after crossing the line in 8.17.
On the men’s side, there were also two wins recorded. Most notably, in the 800m, three Gamecocks finished in the top three, all with personal best times. Ricky Circelli took home the win with a time of 1:50.65, followed by Knox Eaton (1:50.85), and Kaleb Burroughs (1:50.93).
The second win of the day came from Khaliq Muhammad in pole vault, recording his second win at home. He cleared a height of 5.25m (17-2.75), just shy of his season best of 5.30m.
Andrew Salvodon secured his best result of the season, finishing runner-up in the 400m sprint with a time of 46.60.
The Gamecocks will put a bow on the home event tomorrow as they host the second and final day of the Carolina Classic. Competition begins at 11 a.m. with the women’s long jump and pole vault and will conclude at 2:45 with the men’s 4x400m relay.
