Gamecocks Defeat Yellow Jackets, 4-1

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team defeated Georgia Tech, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon inside the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center. The Gamecocks improve to 4-1 overall. 

The No. 37 duo of Lauren Friedman and Helena Buchwald set the tone with a dominant 6–2 win on court one. From the first position, Kaitlyn Carnicella and Jane Dunyon earned a hard-fought 7–5 victory against Georgia Tech, their first match playing together as a pair. Georgia Tech earned its lone doubles win on court three, edging past Sara Borkop and Jana Stojanova, 6–4. With victories on courts one and three, the Gamecocks claimed the doubles point, taking an early 1-0 lead. 

In the singles competition, No. 80 Carnicella extended South Carolina’s lead with a 6-1, 6-1 upset victory over No. 47 Cruz on court one. Jane Dunyon followed on court five, earning a straight-sets win over Nayuki, 6-3, 7-5, to put the Gamecocks one point away from the win. Taylor Goetz delivered a resilient three-set win on court four, rallying past Georgia Tech’s Olivia Carneiro. After dropping the opening set, Goetz took control in the second, evening the match with a commanding 6-2 performance. She carried that momentum into the deciding set, breaking serve and closing out the match, 6-3, to clinch the overall victory for South Carolina.
