  • Harrison Campi drove in seven runs in the three games and had Wofford’s lone home run.
  • Keeton Burroughs was 4-for-7 in the series with a pair of walks and two RBI.
  • On the mound, Alec Bouchard struck out eight batters in five innings to earn the win.
  • Wofford was 33-27 last season and was 2-2 in the Southern Conference Tournament. James Leyman led Wofford with a .369 batting average in 2025.
  • J. Edwards is in his third season at Wofford and 14th season on staff. He guided Wofford to 42 wins in his first season as head coach in 2024.

SERIES VS. WOFFORD

  • Carolina holds a 77-25-1 all-time record against Wofford heading into Tuesday but the two teams have not played since the 2017 season.
  • The Gamecocks defeated Wofford, 9-5, on May 3, 2017, as Cody Morris struck out eight and Jacob Olson had three hits. Carolina slugged three home runs in the victory.
  • The series dates back to 1895 as Carolina is 25-12-1 all-time against the Terriers in Spartanburg.

SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB

  • The Runnin’ Bulldogs won 3-of-4 games against Valparaiso this past weekend in Boiling Springs. Gardner-Webb scored 36 runs in the four games.
  • Zach Thompson is off to a blistering start, going 10-for-14 with eight runs scored and five RBI.
  • Former Gamecock Thad Ector is batting .429 with five runs scored and a double.
  • On the mound, Reid Bertram struck out five in seven innings of work to earn a win.
  • Gardner-Webb was 17-36 last season and 6-18 in Big South play. Ryan Kennell hit .311 with 44 RBI in 2025.
  • Jim Chester is in his seventh year as head coach at Gardner-Webb. He was the head coach at Barton College before coming to GWU.

SERIES VS. GARDNER-WEBB

  • Carolina holds a 6-2 series advantage on Gardner-Webb heading into Wednesday’s game.
  • The two teams played once in 1973 and have played seven times in the 21st century, including each of the past two seasons.
  • Last year, Carolina scored five runs in the fourth and four more in the six for the 14-4 win. Nathan Hall drove in three and Carolina used seven different pitchers for the run-rule victory.

GAMECOCKS IN PRO PARKS

  • Carolina will play Tuesday against Wofford at Fifth Third Park, home of the Hub City Spartanburgers.
  • It’s the first of four games Carolina will play at a minor league stadium.
  • The Gamecocks face Clemson on Feb. 28 at Segra Park, home of the Columbia Fireflies.
  • They then face The Citadel at Riley Park, home of the Charleston Riverdogs, on March 10 and play North Carolina March 24 at Truist Field, home of the Charlotte Knights.

BAK IN THE CLUTCH

  • Junior outfielder Tyler Bak came through with two clutch hits in Carolina’s 6-5 win over Northern Kentucky on Feb. 13.
  • With the Gamecocks down 2-1 in the seventh, Bak singled to bring home two runs, giving Carolina the 3-2 lead.
  • Then in the eighth, trailing 5-3, Bak’s two-run single tied the game at five, leading to KJ Scobey’s walk-off home run in the ninth.
  • Bak had four hits in the series to go with a .429 on-base percentage.
  • Bak returns Tuesday to face his old team, Wofford, where he was an All-Southern Conference Freshman team selection in 2024.

GUNTHER STOPS THE NORSE

  • Junior pitcher Josh Gunther earned the win on Opening Day, pitching 4.2 innings of relief in a 5-2 win over Northern Kentucky.
  • Gunther struck out a career high seven batters, allowing just four hits with one walk and a pair of runs in the ninth.
  • It also was Gunther’s longest career outing.
  • Earlier in the week, Gunther was named to the NCBWA’s Stopper of the Year Watch List.

KJ MOVING TO SHORT FOR 2026

  • Sophomore KJ Scobey manned the hot corner last year, starting at third in 56 of Carolina’s 57 games in 2025.
  • Scobey will now move to shortstop this season, a position he played at Team USA training camp this summer and all through fall ball.
  • Scobey had 34 runs scored, seven doubles, eight home runs and 27 RBI in his freshman season.
  • Scobey had a walk-off double in Carolina’s 3-2 win over North Florida on April 22 and had a home run to lead off the ninth in the Gamecocks’ 6-5 win over No. 1 LSU on May 15.
  • Scobey spent the summer of 2025 in the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team training camp in Cary, N.C. He had two hits in the Stars and Stripes exhibition on June 30.
  • In the second game of the 2026 season, Scobey hit a walk-off solo home run to start the bottom of the ninth, lifting Carolina to a 6-5 win. He has now had the Gamecocks’ last two walk-off hits.
