Baseball Beats Wofford, 8-2, For First Midweek Win of the Year

SPARTANBURG – KJ Scobey had four hits, including a home run, while Connor Chicoli went five innings to earn the win as the University of South Carolina baseball team defeated Wofford, 8-2, Tuesday night (Feb. 17) at Fifth Third Park, home of the Hub City Spartanburgers.

Wofford struck first with a leadoff home run from Cade Collins. The Gamecocks tied the game in the third as Reese Moore brought in Jack Reynolds with a single to right. Carolina plated a pair in the fourth on a Reynolds’ RBI infield single and Tyler Bak single to center.

The Gamecocks put up a pair of runs in the seventh as Aaron Jamison plated Dawson Harman on a sacrifice fly and Scobey’s infield hit brought in Moore.

Carolina used the longball in the ninth for three runs as Talmadge LeCroy’s solo shot and Scobey’s two-run blast were both to the berm in left center, making it 8-2.

Chicoli earned the win for the Gamecocks, going five innings and allowing five hits with one run, no walks and four strikeouts. Scobey had four hits while LeCroy had two safeties.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Jack Reynolds earned his first start as a Gamecock and was 1-for-4 with and RBI and a run scored.
  • Scobey set a career best with his four hits.
  • Carolina used four pitchers on the night and received four innings out of pen from Elijah Foster, Cooper Parks and Logan Prisco. Prisco struck out three in his two innings of relief.
  • The attendance was 4,891 at Fifth Third Park.
