BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Redshirt senior Frankie Harris was tabbed SEC Co-Golfer of the Week and Talan Harrison was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week as the conference office announced its golf weekly award winners on Wednesday.

The duo of Harris and Harrison led the Gamecocks to a top-five finish in the spring opener at the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 9-11) last week in a field that featured the top two teams in the country in No. 1 Virginia and No. 2 LSU.
Harris won the tournament for his second win of the season after shooting a career-best score of 200 (-16). The Boca Raton, Fla. native fired rounds of 67-67-66 en route to victory. He finished with 16 birdies and a pair of eagles over the course of 54 holes at Grand Reserve Golf Club. He T-1st in par-5 scoring average (4.17, -10) and T-3rd in par-4 scoring average (3.80, -6) in the 85-player field. Harris picked up five head-to-head wins against top-25 players in Clippd, including top-ranked Ben James of Virginia. The victory jolted him nearly 50 spots up the Clippd Player Rankings to No. 47 this week. It also bumped him up four spots to No. 11 in the latest PGA TOURU Rankings.
Harris, a three-year starter for South Carolina after transferring from Auburn, has five career wins now which ties him with three-time All-American Kyle Thompson (1997-2001) for the most individual wins in program history. The weekly honor is the fifth SEC Golfer of the Week award for Harris in his three seasons now as a Gamecock, the most in program history. He earned SEC Golfer of the Week back on Sept. 17 after his season-opening victory at the Gopher Invitational (Sept. 7-8).
Harrison also had a solid week in Puerto Rico as he had a T-14th finish, his second career top-20 in five events played now this season. The Kannapolis, N.C. native shot a new career-low score of 207 (-9) with rounds of 68-69-70. He matched Harris with a team-best 16 birdies over the course of 54 holes at Grand Reserve. Harrison T-2nd in the field in par-3 scoring average (2.75, -3). It’s his first SEC Freshman of the Week honor.
