No. 17 Gamecocks Fall to No. 9 Tigers on Thursday Afternoon

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 17 South Carolina women’s tennis team fell 4-1 to No. 9 LSU on Thursday afternoon inside the Carolina Tennis Center. 

Kaitlyn Carnicella and Jane Dunyon grabbed an early doubles win for the Gamecocks, clinching court one with a 6-2 victory. However, LSU was able to earn the overall doubles point after back-to-back wins on courts three and five over South Carolina.  

The Gamecocks picked up their lone point from a straight-sets win from Jana Stojanova, who defeated Alexia Marginean 6-3, 6-3 from court six. Buchwald went toe-to-toe with No. 51 Kayla Cross from the second position. Buchwald took the opening set 6-4 before falling in the second 6-4. The sophomore was battling hard in the third set before play was halted. Sara Borkop overcame a 6-4 first set loss as she claimed set two, 6-2. The freshman was up 1-0 in the third frame before she could continue due to the match being clinched by LSU. 

South Carolina is back in action on Saturday at the Carolina Outdoor Tennis Center as they take on No 32 Ole Miss. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
