No. 11 Gamecocks Defeat Tigers 4-2
COLUMBIA, MO. – The No. 11 South Carolina women’s tennis team defeated Missouri, 4-2, on Friday afternoon inside the Mizzou Tennis Complex.
Due to Missouri having an insufficient number of players, they were forced to forfeit doubles #3 and singles #6, giving South Carolina a 1-0 advantage.
Heading into doubles play, the No. 21 duo of Lauren Friedman and Helena Buchwald secured a 6-3 victory on court one. Kaitlyn Carnicella and Taylor Goetz were all tied up at 4-4 before their match was marked unfinished due to the Gamecocks claiming the doubles point.
In singles play, Carnicella and Dunyon grabbed first-set wins on their respective courts. Buchwald was first to finish on court two, dropping her court 6-3, 6-3. Dunyon gave the Gamecocks a 3-1 advantage after putting together a straight-set win against Lara Quaglia. From the first position, Carnicella was able to fight back from a second-set loss and secure the match for South Carolina.
