Gamecocks Fall to Texas in Game Two

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Despite limiting No. 3 Texas (21-1, 2-0) to five hits for the second straight game, No. 23 South Carolina (15-8, 0-2) dropped game two of its SEC softball series 3-0 Saturday afternoon (Mar. 7).

Karley Shelton led the way for Carolina going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Jori Heard (3-2) took the loss but allowed just one unearned run in 6 1-3 innings and striking out five.

The Gamecocks had a runner reach base in each of the first five innings, but they were unable to push a run across. South Carolina’s best chance for a run came in the third. Quincee Lilio reached on an error and Shelton followed with an infield single. Tori Ensley delivered a single to right, but Lilio was out at home trying to score from second.

The Longhorns broke the scoreless game in the sixth with two outs after a Carolina error and a double. They added two more in the seventh on a single.

South Carolina left six runners on base as it was shutout for the first time this season.

The series finale will be Sunday at noon on the SEC Network.
