Gamecocks Pick Up Win in Senior Day Finale
BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – The No. 2 South Carolina Equestrian team finished the regular season with a 17-3 win over Delaware State on Saturday. The Gamecocks earned a 10-0 first-half sweep for the first time since 2013, which was also against Delaware State (March 1). The win is the Gamecocks’ tenth of the season, marking the most since the 2014-15 season (12), when South Carolina won the program’s third NCEA Championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The day started in Fences with Amira Kettaneh scoring her point with an 87 on Marty. Alyssa Bauer followed with a dominant 86-66 victory for her ride on Schnitzel. Bella Primavera defeated Elizabeth Hopkins 75-60 on Nino, and Natalie Jayne’s 82 on Q beat Melisa Acker’s 73. Grace Rabb completed the sweep in the event with an 85 on Dobby.
The Gamecocks won Horsemanship in the same 5-0 fashion. Alexis Potts defeated Hallie Prater 77-71 on Winston, and Alyssa Jipping outscored Madison Wojeck 75.5-74 on Brad. Lillian Laney (73.5) scored her point on Stanley, and Ruby Voortmeyer (73) earned hers on Sparky. Carly Jenkins made the score 10-0 Gamecocks when she scored a 74 for her ride on Ziggy.
South Carolina carried the momentum into the second half, winning Flat 5-0. Kettaneh won 85-64 on Major, and Jayne took her point with an 84 on Schnitzel. Mary Hunter Millet scored with an 83-56 victory on Fenway, and Sarah Rabb edged out Lily Kosal 71-70 on Dento. Kenley Koch completed the team’s third sweep of the day with a 72-52 win on Goose.
Over in Reining, the Hornets won the battle 3-2. Freshman Emily Patton picked up the first point of the event with her 69-66 win on Nike. Olivia Cardi rounded out the day with a win on Giallo, defeating Bailey Henderson 72-62.5 and earning an MOP.
