2021 (GRADUATE SENIOR):
One of the program’s undisputed best players of all time, Mackenzie Boesel closed out her Carolina career in style in 2021 as she was named an Academic All-American for the fourth time in her career, the first student-athlete from any sport at the University of South Carolina to do so… On the field, she hit .416 in 52 games of work at second base with 52 starts… She posted 64 hits in 154 at-bats with 47 runs with 16 doubles, six home runs and 37 RBI… During the season, she set the school record for home runs and doubles… Drew 35 walks and three hit by pitches on her way to a .528 on-base percentage… Finished 8-for-8 on stolen bases… Was named an NFCA All-American for the first time in her career.
2020 (SENIOR):
Hit. 317 in 23 games, drawing 23 starts at second base for Carolina… Finished with 19 hits in 60 at-bats with 17 runs, three doubles, a triple and two home runs… Slugged .500 with 12 walks and seven hit by pitches on her way to a .475 on-base percentage… Had four multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games… Finished the year on a four-game hitting streak and a 19-game reached base streak… Went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI in an 11-1 (5) win over Southern Illinois on Feb. 8… Tied the career mark for grand slams in a career during the Beverly Smith era (3) with a monster grand slam against Virginia Tech in Clearwater on Feb. 14… Went 2-for-4 with two runs at No. 13 Georgia on Mar. 8… Posted a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI in the Mar. 11 victory over Winthrop… Named a CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American for the second-straight year.
2019 (JUNIOR):
Batted .356 in 57 games, starting all 57 games the Gamecocks played at second base… Had 64 hits in 180 at-bats with 52 runs and 37 RBI… Had eight home runs with 21 doubles, the fifth-most in the country and best in the SEC… Slugged .606 with a .463 on-base percentage thanks to 37 free bases, 33 of which were walks… One of just two Gamecocks to start every game of the season… Went 3-for-3 with two runs and four RBI in a victory over Winthrop on Feb. 24… Produced in the second game of the Bryant doubleheader on Mar. 13 with a 3-for-4 performance marked with two runs and six RBI… Went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the SEC Tournament against Florida in College Station, Texas… 21 hits in conference play to go along with a .273 batting average… Had a career-best in doubles, slugging percentage, walks, strikeouts and on-base percentage… 16 multi-hit games with 10 multi-RBI contests… Had an SC-best 12-game hit streak during the season… Had an 18-game reached base streak during the year… Named a CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American… It was her first first-team honor and second-straight Academic All-America honor.
2018 (SOPHOMORE):
Followed up her highly successful freshman year with an outstanding second season in which she started all 66 games for Carolina… Led the Gamecocks in batting average (.360), at bats (203), runs (53), hits (73), doubles (18), triples (three), RBI (47), total bases (121), slugging percentage (.596), walks (25) and on-base percentage (.440)… Had a career year in batting average, at bats, runs, hits, doubles, RBI, total bases and walks… Paced Carolina at the plate with 21 multi-hit games, 11 multi-RBI games, a 10-game hitting streak and a 13-game reached base streak… Was the lone Gamecock to average a hit per game (1.11)… Started the season right where she finished her freshman year with a 2-for-3 performance including two RBI, a run scored and home run in a win over East Carolina in the season opener (2/9)… Started the year with hits the first three games with four RBI… Went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI in a win over Miami in Orlando (2/24)… Batted 3-for-4 in the first meeting of the year against Liberty in a victory (3/2)… Went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI in a series-opening win over No. 2 Tennessee (3/23)… Blasted a key three-run home run in a series-winning victory over Arkansas (4/8)… Exploded for a 3-for-4 night with two runs and eight RBI (ties Carolina record set by herself for RBI in a game) in a win over Charleston Southern (5/2)… Hit her second career grand slam in the win over CSU, becoming the second Gamecock in the Beverly Smith era to hit more than one… Batted 2-for-3 with two RBI in the regional championship game win over Liberty to send the Gamecocks to their second-ever super regional… Finished 2-for-4 in the final game of the season against Arizona State in the Tempe Super Regional… Closed the year with hits in five of the last six games… Earned Third-Team Academic All-America honors, becoming just the 10thGamecock in program history to achieve the award… Named to the All-SEC Second Team.
2017 (FRESHMAN):
Posted one of the finest freshman campaigns in Gamecock history … An SEC All-Freshman Team pick, she also garnered third-team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Southeast Region accolades at second base … Led South Carolina in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, home runs, RBI, hits and runs, the first Gamecock freshman to lead the team in batting average, homers and RBI in program history … Became the sixth Gamecock to tally double-digit home runs in a single season and the first freshman, knocking 10 … Her slugging percentage of .598 stands 12th in program history, while her 41 RBI stand tied for eighth … Also took nine hit-by-pitches, leading the team and standing eighth in SC’s annals … Started her career strong with a 2-for-2 day with a run, a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in the Ohio win (2/10) … Tripled and scored against Presbyterian (2/10) … Also had two hits and two RBI in the second game against the Blue Hose in the Carolina Classic (2/12) … Drove in the game-winning run in the Charlotte win (2/12), the 200th victory for head coach Beverly Smith … Hit her first career home run, scored three times and drove in three more in the Indiana win (2/17) … Knocked a home run as part of a 2-for-4 day at North Carolina (2/22) … Tallied the game-winning RBI in the Saturday win over North Dakota State (2/25) as part of the Gamecock Invitational … Went 3-for-3 with three runs, a home run and two RBI in the game-one win over Winthrop (2/28) … Ranked fifth among all batters in the Judi Garman Classic with a .571 batting average, tallying five RBI against ranked teams in the event … That included a three-run homer versus Arizona State (3/4) … Named SEC Freshman of the Week for her exploits in Fullerton, Calif. … Went 3-for-3 with a walk in the Virginia Tech win (3/8) … Drew three walks and scored a run in the win over Gardner-Webb (3/21) … Had hits in all three games at No. 9/9 Alabama (3/24-26), including scoring twice in the 14-0 victory … Doubled and homered in the Furman triumph (3/28) … Went 3-for-4 with a double at Coastal Carolina (4/11) as part of a seven-game hitting streak, her second of that length during the year … Went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, two RBI and two runs scored in the first Charleston Southern victory (4/18) … Added a homer in game two against the Bucs… Went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Sunday’s win at No. 22/25 Georgia (4/30) … Reached base in all three games against No. 18/19 LSU (5/5-7), going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI in the Saturday win … Also went 2-for-4 in the SEC Tournament contest against No. 18/18 Kentucky (5/10) … Tied two program records with two home runs and eight RBI as part of her 3-for-3, three runs game in the NCAA Tucson Regional opening win over St. Francis (5/19) … Added another two-run homer against the Red Flash in the elimination-game win (5/20) … Garnered recognition as an NFCA Scholar-Athlete and as a member of the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
