One of the top prep jumpers in South Carolina continues his team point contributions as he enters his junior season … expected to be a threat in the triple jump, Pressley has national qualifying potential.
2006: During the indoor season, competed in both the long and triple jumps … in the long jump, opened the season with a 22-4 1/4 at the Virginia Tech Invitational, followed by a 22-7 1/4 jump at the SEC Indoor Championships … in the triple jump, landed in the pit with a mark of 48-3 1/2 at Virginia Tech … would continue to progress all the way to a mark of 49-10 established at the New Balance Armory Collegiate Invitational … at the SEC Indoor Championships, jumped 48-1 3/4 … during the outdoor season, his primary focus was the triple jump … at the SEC Outdoor Championships, scored valuable points with a 49-5 3/4 effort to earn a seventh-place finish.
2005: Competed in both horizontal jumps … consistently over 47-7 in the triple jump in every competition … won the triple jump at the Meet of Champions with a leap of 48-8 3/4 … posted his best indoor marks in both the long and triple jumps at the SEC Championships, going 22-5 3/4 in the long jump to finish 11th and 48-10 1/4 in the triple jump to place seventh … won the triple jump competition at the Weems Baskin Relays to open the outdoor season … placed sixth in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 48-10 3/4 at the Sea Ray Relays … turned in his best long jump effort at the SEC Outdoor Championships with a leap of 22-5 3/4 to finish 15th … went 48-6 1/4 in the triple jump to place eighth at the same meet.
HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Wren High School in Piedmont, S.C., in 2004 … lettered in football, basketball and track … coached by Rick Taylor … was the 2004 state triple jump champion and a member of the all-state team … helped his team to the state track and field title in 2004.
PERSONAL: Derek Tyler Pressley was born July 31, 1986, in Greenville, S.C. … parents are Eddie and Beverly Pressley … is an exercise science major … says his most exciting moment was helping his team win the state championship.
