Brock Moreaux

Brock Moreaux

Brock Moreaux is entering his second season as the Cross Country Coach and Assistant Coach for the distance program with South Carolina Track & Field.

Moreaux saw a significant jump in his first year as he revitalized the distance program for Carolina. During the cross country season, his squad finished eighth at the SEC Championship for the program’s first Top-10 finish since 2012 and was the highest finish since taking home seventh in 2001. Moreaux’s cross country team was led by Judy Kosgei and Silan Ayyildiz with the duo earning All-SEC honors, representing the first duo to earn All-SEC honors for Carolina since 1999. In addition, Kosgei earned a spot at the NCAA Cross Country Championship, marking the first ever Gamecock to run at the championship event. Kosgei finished fourth at the Regional meet to earn All-Region honors and then placed 19th overall at the Championship event to land on the All-American team.

The cross country season was just a mere indication of how his squad would perform during the track & field campaign. During the indoor season, Moreaux coached Anass Essayi to a Second Team All-American honor in the men’s 3K. At the SEC Indoor Championship, Moreaux put together a DMR squad of Anass Essayi, Jaouad Khchina, Joshua Kosgei and Bryson Miller as the quartet claimed gold medal honors to become the program’s first ever men’s DMR champion at the SEC meet. In all at the SEC Indoor Championship, Moreaux coached seven All-SEC honorees and his distance squad accounted for six new indoor program records. Essayi earned silver medalist honors in the men’s indoor mile at the SEC Championship, while Judy Kosgei claimed bronze medalist honors in the 800m.

Transition to the outdoor season where Moreaux coached Essayi to a First Team All-American nod in the men’s 1500m. Moreaux also coached a trio of All-SEC honorees during the outdoor season, guiding Essayi to silver medalist honors in both the 800m and the 5K, while guiding Sylvia Chelangat and Judy Kosgei to bronze medalist honors in the 800m and 1500m events. During the outdoor season, his distance squad accounted for five new program records.

Moreaux arrived in Columbia after serving as the Head Coach for New Orleans Track & Field and Cross Country. Moreaux joined the Privateers in 2018, serving as the Assistant Head Coach until 2021 when he took over as the Associate Head Coach for the 2021-22 season. He was then named Head Coach for the 2022-23 campaign.

Moreaux took New Orleans to new heights as the women’s cross country squad won the program’s first-ever Southland Conference Championship – just the third conference championship in any sport in school history. The UNO women finished with 32 points, 55 points better than second place Lamar for the largest margin of victory in a Southland Championship since 2014. The Privateer men finished third with a total of 81 points, a new program best for placement and point totals.

Moreaux achieved a lot in such a short amount of time with the Privateers, including being named 2022 Southland Conference Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year after leading his team to the Southland Conference championship. He also earned Louisiana Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year honors for that season. Moreaux has coached a combined 38 All-Southland Outdoor Track & Field selections and 25 All-Southland Indoor honorees.

Moreaux coached 16 total All-Southland Cross Country selections, in addition to 14 All-Louisiana Cross Country winners. He has guided six NCAA East Regional participants, two NCAA Cross Country Championship participants, and one Louisiana Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Year winner.

Upon his arrival to New Orleans, Moreaux built a roster that reached as high as sixth in the South Central Region – the men’s highest ranking ever, and the women’s second highest and best ranking since they were fourth at the conclusion of the 2000 season.

Under Moreaux’s guidance, Arina Kleshchukova became one of the most decorated student-athletes in Privateers’ history, having never run a cross country race before attending New Orleans. During her career, Kleshchukova won four races, finished second five times, third twice, fourth once and fifth twice (13 out of 18 career races in the top-five). She was also the first student-athlete in school history to advance to the NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championships.

Before arriving to New Orleans, Moreaux spent two seasons at Cal State Northridge, guiding the program to its best ever finish at the 2018 Big West Cross Country Championships with a program-best five scored student-athletes.

During the 2016-17 season, Moreaux served as a volunteer assistant coach for Oklahoma Track & Field/Cross Country programs. While in Norman, he assisted the women’s cross country squad to a fourth-place finish in the Big 12 conference, the best finish in school history.

Moreaux was a four-year letterman at McNeese, competing in both track & field and cross country between 2011-2015. He won the conference title in the steeplechase at the 2015 Southland Championships. During his final year of eligibility at McNeese, Moreaux served as an intern/assistant coach helping the coaching staff with day-to-day operations of the distance program.

He earned both of his degrees at McNeese, a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a Master’s of Science in Health and Human Performance. He and his wife, Destinee, currently reside in Columbia.
