Alex Martin Bio
Alex Martin is in her first year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Gamecocks, returning to her alma mater in December 2016.
Martin worked as an assistant coach at Wofford College for the 2016 season under head coach Krissy Hall. She helped lead the Terriers to an 11-9 record, their best season record since 2008, and to the quarter-finals of the SoCon Tournament.
Martin played collegiately at the University of South Carolina, graduating in December 2015 with a degree in broadcast journalism. She served as her team’s Student Athletic Advisory Council representative in her three years playing for the Gamecocks. Sha was awarded the ITA Scholar Athlete Award, as well as making the President’s, Dean’s Lists and the SEC Honor Roll during her time as a student-athlete. Martin was also active in the community while at USC, making the SEC Women’s Tennis Community Service Team her junior year.
Martin started her collegiate career at the University of Texas, where she helped her team to a 2012 Big 12 Conference Tournament championship and a Round of 16 finish in the NCAA Tournament. She also made the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll while at Texas.
Outside of tennis, Martin has experience working in television production. She was an intern at Carolina News in Fall 2015 and also worked as a production assistant for Gamecock Productions/SEC Network Live while a student at USC.
A native of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Martin currently resides in Columbia.
