COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina senior Brandi Cross was named the SEC Female Track Athlete of the Week after her nation-leading performance last weekend, the conference office announced Tuesday.

The weekly honor is the first for Cross this season and marks the third consecutive week that a Gamecock has been honored by the league as a runner of the week.

Cross became the national leader in the 400-meter dash after winning the Pepsi Florida Relays at 52.54. She is two-tenths of a second faster than the next collegiate runner. Her time is also No. 5 in the world in 2010 and the second fastest run by an American. Cross also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x400m relay team that ran 3:35.62 to move to No. 9 on the NCAA list.

South Carolina returns to action Wednesday when the team hosts the Gamecock Open Meet at the Weems Baskin Track Facility.
