COLUMBIA, S.C. – Hannah Milks reaped the first Southeastern Conference weekly award of the year for South Carolina, as she was named the Freshman of the Week by the conference office on Monday.
Milks hit .500 on the weekend against Mississippi State, including a 3-for-3 outing in the game two win. In that contest, she scored three runs, a career best, which included the eventual game-winner on sophomore Kaitlin Westfall’s home run in the fourth. The Greenville, S.C., native also made some good plays at third base, tallying 11 assists on the week. She stands second on the team in both batting average and on-base percentage this season
She is the first Gamecock to capture a weekly award since Audrey Broyles won the SEC Pitcher of the Week on April 13, 2009. She’s the fifth South Carolina player to claim the Freshman of the Week title, the first since Laura Mendes took it on March 10, 2008.
Megan Wiggins of Georgia claimed the SEC Player of the Week crown, while LSU’s Rachele Fico was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week.
South Carolina closes out its home schedule at 6 p.m. on Wednesday against Coastal Carolina.
