Head Coach Ray Tanner Quotes
vs. Ole Miss
4/16/10
On Blake Cooper
“It was a special outing. You have to give credit to (Drew) Pomeranz (as well). He is everything that he is advertised to be. He is tremendously gifted, powerful, got a great breaking ball. It’s one of those deals where you can’t get upset with your hitters because he’s so good. On the flip side, and I told our guys this before the game, Blake Cooper would give us a chance to. He was going to keep us in the game. It was going to be a close one and somehow we figured out a way to win. I can’t say enough about Cooper’s outing, it was extremely special.”
On Drew Pomeranz
“We studied his box scores a little bit. One of the things you have to hope for with Pomeranz is that his pitch count will get high. In reviewing all of his box scores up until today’s game, he would strike out 12 or 15 but he’d still throw 125 going into the night so that didn’t seem to be a solution for us, but tonight we were able to get a lot of three ball counts. It worked out that he got up to 120 before the 8th. That’s about as good as you can draw it up.
On Adrian Morales
“It’s amazing. For a guy who is hitting under 250, he is a much better hitter when runners are on and when the chips are down. We’ve talked about it and his awareness is so much better when runners are on than when chips aren’t down a little bit. He’s a clutch player. He did a nice job of getting some runs home for us.”
