INDIANAPOLIS – With the 12th IAAF World Championships scheduled to begin at Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany next week, various countries around the world have released their representatives for the meet, including eight current and former Gamecocks that will compete for their nations.
South Carolina junior Johnny Dutch leads a list of six Gamecocks that will represent Team USA. Dutch, one of six men’s collegians selected for Team USA, will compete in the 400m-hurdles after placing second at the USA Championships. Terrence Trammell will also represent the men as a 110m-hurdle competitor and 4x100m relay pool member.
On the women’s side, Lashinda Demus and Tiffany Ross-Williams were two of three members selected in the 400m-hurdles. Demus is the current world leader in the event with a top time of 52.63. Shalonda Solomon was selected to the 4x100m relay pool, and 2008 Olympic gold medalist Natasha Hastings was selected to the 4x400m relay pool.
Two former Gamecocks will also represent other countries as Jussi Heikkila will represent Finland in the men’s 400m-hurdles and 2004 Olympic gold medalist Aleen Bailey will represent Jamaica in the 100m and 4x100m relay.
NBC, VERSUS TO BROADCAST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
