The University of South Carolina Gamecock football squad returned to the Bluff Road practice fields Tuesday afternoon. The squad worked out for a little over two hours under warm but windy conditions.

“Not too much happened (today),” said head coach Steve Spurrier following the workout. “The defense looked pretty good. Some of the quarterbacks threw some errant balls. But other than that it was a decent practice.”

Junior quarterback Stephen Garcia wore a camera attached to the top of his helmet during Tuesday’s practice. “It’s one of those training aids you put on the quarterback to see what he’s looking at,” noted Coach Spurrier. “We’re going to go back and review and see what Stephen is looking at on all the interceptions he threw in practice today, because he threw a handful of them. I’ve seen it advertised at coaching clinics. It’s an aid to try to see where the quarterbacks head is.”

Coach Spurrier reminded everyone to not put too much stock in what they saw in Saturday’s scrimmage. “Jarvis (Giles) made a few runs, but it wasn’t against an SEC defensive front, that was for sure. Defensively, we’re playing with two walk-on snappers, (Chris) Vaughn and (Matt) Grooms, who do a good job in there at defensive tackle, but that’s our second-team defensive line (in the spring). We’re sort of a make-shift group right now.”

Defensive tackle Ladi Ajiboye sat out Tuesday’s practice. “He has a sprained foot. We’re holding him out.” The injury is not thought to be serious.

Defensive tackle Melvin Ingram saw some action at fullback on Tuesday when the Gamecocks went to their “Wildcat” formation. “Melvin and (Stephon) Gilmore – we bring them over together. It’s a nice little package – part of the “Gilmore” package,” said Coach Spurier.

Wide receiver D.L. Moore received praise from the Head Ball Coach. “D.L. is doing well. If we were playing tomorrow, he might be a starter.”

Coach Spurrier indicated that the team might take advantage of the good weather forecast and return to the practice fields on Wednesday afternoon.
