COLUMBIA, S.C. – Freshman Audrey Broyles from the South Carolina softball team has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week.
Broyles debuted with 14 strikeouts, a high for a Gamecock pitcher in her first game during the SEC era, allowing just one run in a complete game win over the College of Charleston. She allowed just two runs but picked up the loss in the second game of the year against the Cougars and has given up just one hit an inning during her first two appearances while leading the starters with a 1.62 ERA.
Broyles also helped her own cause with two RBI in the season-opening win over the College of Charleston. She leads the team with a .500 batting average and a .556 on-base percentage in the early going. Broyles is the only Gamecock to have a hit in all three games.
