Former University of South Carolina Gamecock football players Justin Sorensen and Jonathan Williams have made the 46-man Opening Day roster of the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League.

Sorensen, who was born in Parkville, British Columbia, was the fifth pick in the first round of the 2008 CFL Draft. The 6-7, 316-pound offensive tackle returned to Carolina for his senior season and started all 13 games for the Gamecocks. He started each of the last 31 games in the Garnet and Black at right tackle.

Williams was signed by the Lions this spring as a free agent. The 6-2, 290 pound defensive tackle played in all 25 games over two seasons at South Carolina after transferring from Mississippi Delta CC. The Augusta, Ga. native was in on 20 tackles and added two tackles for a loss as well as two sacks for the Gamecocks.

The Lions, who finished the 2008 season with an 11-7 record, open the 2009 season on Friday, July 3 when they travel to Saskatchewan to take on the Roughriders.
