FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jason Richardson ran his second-fastest time of the year in the 60-meter hurdles and the women’s mile relay team also picked up silver medal honors to lead the South Carolina track programs on the final day of competition at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville.
Richardson ran a 7.73 in Saturday’s final to place second after finishing ninth in Friday’s preliminary round at 7.83. The time is his sixth provisional time of the year and his best performance since running a 7.71 last month at the Tom Jones Memorial Classic in Gainesville, Fla. Johnny Dutch placed ninth at 7.97 to give Carolina two top 10 finishers in the event.
The women’s 4×400-meter relay placed second at 3:36.37, the fourth consecutive week that the Gamecocks hit a provisional qualifying mark. The team has been anchored this season All-Americans Brandi Cross and Krystal Cantey, Faraign Giles and Porche Byrd.
The Gamecocks competed in four other events Saturday – the men’s 200-meter dash, 4×400-meter relay and triple jump along with the women’s 200-meter dash. Lamar Markett and Derron Flood placed in the men’s 200-meter while Gabrielle Glenn, Giles and Dishari’ck Howze placed in the women’s 200-meter dash.
Derek Pressley jumped a 49-2 ¼ in the men’s triple jump championships. Pressley, who hit a provisional qualifying mark last weekend with a personal best 51-2 ¾, has been a constant jumper for the men’s team this season.
