FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The South Carolina track programs concluded the first day of action at the Tyson Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Jason Richardson clocked his fifth provisional time in the 60-meter hurdles, placing sixth in the prelims at 7.83 to qualify for the finals. Freshman Johnny Dutch also qualified for Saturday’s final after placing 14th in 8.02.
Freshman Lamar Markett ran the fastest time of any Gamecock this season in the men’s 60-meter dash, clocking in at 6.79 in the prelims to place 12th. He also placed 12th in the finals at 6.85. In the men’s 400-meter dash, Jamil James set an indoor personal record at 47.61 to place 22nd. Keith Hinnant led Carolina in the event at 47.50 and finished 18th.
Carolina’s three runners in the women’s 60-meter dash all set season-highs Friday, led by freshman Lakya Brookins who placed sixth in the prelims at 7.35. Her fifth provisional time of the season in the 60-meter dash, Brookins’s mark ties for eighth on the South Carolina all-time list alongside Miki Barber and Alexis Joyce. Brookins placed 12th in the finals at 7.38.
Gabrielle Glenn placed 20th in the event at 7.51 while Dishari’ck Howze’s 7.87 also goes down as a season-high.
Faraign Giles and Porche Byrd both set new season highs in the women’s 400-meter dash Friday. Giles ran it in 54.63 to place 25th while Byrd’s 55.18 ties her season high set last week at the New Balance Invitational in New York City.
Brittany James was Carolina’s lone participant in the field events Friday. James finished ninth in the women’s long jump championships at a distance of 19-11.
The Tyson Invitational will conclude Saturday.
