University of South Carolina senior placekicker Ryan Succop has been selected as the Southeastern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts last Saturday in the Gamecocks win over UAB, the league office announced today.
Succop, a 6-3, 221-pounder from Hickory, N.C., connected on all four of his field goal attempts and on both extra points, accounting for 14 points in the Gamecocks’ 26-13 win over UAB. He converted field goal attempts from 44, 48, 26 and 24 yards out. It was the most field goals in a game by a Gamecock player since the 1997 season.
Succop has converted each of his last seven field goal attempts and is 10-for-12 on the season. The 14 points he scored in that contest gives him 202 in his career, tying Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers for the second highest total in school history.
Succop becomes the first Gamecock to receive on the SEC’s weekly awards this season. It’s the third time in his career that he has been honored as the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week, also receiving the honor in 2006 after the win at Mississippi State and in 2007 after the win at Georgia.
