BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of South Carolina freshman swimmer Claire Thompson has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Thompson captured three first-place finishes in the Gamecocks’ victory over intrastate rival Clemson on Saturday, their first of the season. The award marks the first such of her career.
Thompson posted season-low marks in the 500- (4:55.89) and 1000-yard freestyle (10:03.95) events, while adding a top finish in the 200 free (1:50.40).
