Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina had two divers final on the second day of NCAA Zone B springboard competition.
Sophomore David Ovelson was the only Gamecock to final on both springboards. He finished fifth on the 1 M on Friday and eighth on the 3 M today. Ovelson had a total of 676.80 points after 12 dives. Sophomore Corry Christian also competed for South Carolina, finishing 21st with a preliminary score of 284.85. The automatic NCAA qualifier for the event were Florida State’s Terry Horner, Alabama’s Aaron Fleshner and Georgia’s Genya Gouzeev.
The Gamecocks also had a finalist on the women’s side. Senior Lyndsey Havens finished eighth on the 1 M board, with a total of 509.15 points. Havens was ninth in prelims with a score of 258.25. Freshmen Sarah Mory and Morgan Ricke also competed on the 1 M board for South Carolina. Mory finished 32nd with 209.30 points and Ricke finished 49th with 164.85 points. The NCAA automatic qualifiers were Kentucky’s Taryn Ignacio, Miami’s Jenna Dreyer, Auburn’s Corey Gerlach, Louisiana State’s Hali Saucier and Kentucky’s Kari Retrum.
The platform portion of the Zone B Diving Championship will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday; however, the Gamecocks do not have any divers competing in the platform events.
