The South Carolina Gamecocks worked out Sunday night in helmets and shorts for about 75 minutes, finishing up just before a heavy downpour hit the Bluff Road Practice fields.

Wide receiver Mike West and fullback Clark Gaston returned to practice on Sunday, while safety Brandon Isaac (hamstring and shoulder), safety Nick Prochak (hamstring) and tight end Andy Boyd (shoulder) remained sidelined.

Following the practice, Head Coach Steve Spurrier met with the media:

“We didn’t do too much tonight. We worked on special team play and a little team. Nothing too much, just the kicking game tonight.”

On putting together a depth chart: “At the Tuesday night scrimmage we’ll put some first team guys, second team and so forth.”

“We’re on pace to have whatever kind of team we’re going to have. The players have worked hard. They’ve been focused in meetings, so I think we’re going to be a smarter team. But until we play Mississippi State, we don’t know.”

On the makeup of the team: “I think some of them are better than what we thought. We didn’t know what we were getting with all these freshmen kids, but we may have three or four starting on defense.”

The team will return to the practice fields on Monday for a 7:30 p.m. practice. It is closed to the public
