The South Carolina Gamecocks worked out twice on Thursday at the Bluff Road practice fields. It was their first “two-a-day” practice of the fall camp. The squad practiced for about two hours during each session, working in shoulder pads and shorts in the morning, then donning full gear for the evening practice. The team will return to the practice field on Friday night at 7:30 p.m., then will move into Williams-Brice Stadium for a scrimmage on Saturday that is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
Following Thursday night’s workout, Head Coach Steve Spurrier addressed the media:
“Another practice tonight. Nothing too exciting. I don’t think anybody got hurt – a few strained muscles here and there.”
About Saturday’s scrimmage: “Hopefully Saturday we can let most of the young guys do most of the scrimmage playing.”
On the first “two-a-day”: “It wasn’t much different than the other practices. We did some good things here and there. A lot of errors here and there, but that’s part of it. We’re right on schedule.”
On Andy Boyd getting a sixth year of eligibility: “That’s nice. The NCAA usually looks to see if a guy had an injury and will grant him that. We’re appreciative.”
On the offensive line: “Our protection isn’t real super right now, which pre-season it never is. The whole second line is all freshmen, but the second line on defense is not freshmen. So it’s a little bit of a mismatch. But that’s okay. We’re learning. Those guys are coming around. We’re going to be fine.”
“Jared (Cook) obviously is a big target. He’s in our plans. People will know about him quickly, as he didn’t play last year.”
