Hurdler Ronnetta Alexander notched an NCAA regional qualifying mark in the 100-meter hurdles, highlighting the Gamecocks’ efforts at the South Carolina USATF State Meet, held at the Weems Baskin track facility on the University of South Carolina campus today.
Alexander, a junior from Williamsville, N.Y., easily won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 13.38 seconds, well under the 13.92-second regional qualifying standard. She becomes the 32nd regional qualifier for the Gamecocks this season.
Senior jumper Kemesha Whitmire won a pair of events on Wednesday, taking first place in both the long jump (5.73 meters) and triple jump (12.36 meters) competitions. She has already posted an NCAA regional mark of 12.44 meters in the triple jump.
On the men’s side, six-time All-American Jonathan Fortenberry won the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.64 seconds. The senior from Marietta, Ga. has been hampered for much of the 2006 season with injuries.
The Gamecocks will return to action this weekend as they travel to Athens, Ga. for the Spec Towns Team Invitational.
