Knoxville, Tenn. – One the first day of the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, South Carolina’s Allison Brennan had a major win on the one-meter board with a score of 325.80. The USC women’s team is in second place with 121 points after the first six events and the men are in fifth with 51 points.
In the diving prelims, Lyndsey Havens took ninth place(249.05) just missing out on the finals cut, Tracey Richardson placed 12th with 242.15, David Ovelson placed 10th (279.25) and Ian Balman placed 17th with a score of 234.10.
“Allison Brennan was struggling through warm-ups this morning but competed like a lion,” said head coach Todd Sherritt. “She performed great today. I was very impressed. David Ovelson did well as a freshman today. I think that nerves played a role in his performance.”
In the 200-medley relay the South Carolina women placed sixth with a time of 1:42.13 and the men finished fifth with a time of 1:32.73. The women’s 800-freestyle relay took fifth place (7:22.67).
“The women’s 800-freestyle relay did very well today setting a school record,” said head coach Don Gibb. “Today was the first day which is the hardest, after the teams get settled I think they will perform better. Christy Williams and Haley Skaggs swam very strong in the relay today. Colby Mack also did well with his best time in the 200-medley relay (22.16).”
Competition continues tomorrow with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m. Men’s 1-meter finals begin at 5 p.m.
