South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier has made a $25,000 contribution to the Carolina Athletics Department, earmarked for track & field facilities, Jeff Barber, USC Associate Athletics Director for Development, announced today.

“I realize that I’ve been extremely fortunate to receive the money that head football coaches make these days,” said Spurrier. “I also feel it is a privilege and a responsibility to give back to our university. Our women’s sports and our spring sports can use some upgrading in their facilities. Hopefully this donation will be helpful to their success,” said Spurrier.

“We are deeply appreciative of Coach Spurrier and his gift to athletics,” said Barber. “It is special that a head coach would give back to the department and support women’s athletics like he does. We are fortunate to have him on our team.”

“It’s great to have Coach Spurrier step forward and lead the university in its first of what we hope will be many contributions to improve our facilities,” said track & field coach Curtis Frye. “We are in dire need of a capital improvements at USC. I hope this leads many other great supporters of Carolina sports – in particular the supporters of the Olympic sports ¬- to step forward and help us get to the level of our rivals in the SEC. Coach Spurrier has always shown strong support of track and of Olympic sports,” continued Frye. “We are really excited that he would like to see our facilities improve and help us reach our ultimate goal of being champions in all sports.”
