Izmir, Turkey – University of South Carolina women’s diver Allison Brennan began competition at the 2005 World University Games in Izmir, Turkey on Sunday reaching the finals of the one-meter springboard competition and earning fourth place with a finals score of 249.63 Brennan, 2004 national champion on the one-meter board, will return to South Carolina this year for her senior season after sitting out last year with a medical redshirt.

Brennan opened up the preliminary competition in the morning off to a fast start finishing second with a score of 253.86. As one of the Top 12 divers in the preliminaries, Brennan continued her success in the semifinals scoring 260.34 and remaining in second place earning one of the top six spots heading into the finals. Despite missing a forward 2-1/2 tuck to start the final round off, Brennan pressed forward and took home a foruth place finish and finished only 1.53 points behind the third place finisher, Juliana Veloso from Brazil. Wu Minxia of China earned the gold with 289.68 points and Olena Fedorova of the Ukraine won silver at 264.36.

The diving competition at the World University Games continues through to Saturday, Aug. 20 with the men’s and women’s teams set to also compete in the three-meter, platform, and three-meter synchrnoized competitions.
