Columbia, S.C. – Newly hired University of South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier indicated Wednesday morning that at the present time, three members of the former Carolina coaching staff would be retained and make up part of his new staff. Coach Spurrier confirmed that Rick Stockstill, Ron Cooper and David Reaves, all who worked under former Carolina head coach Lou Holtz this past season, would serve on his new staff. Coach Spurrier said that specific coaching responsibilities would be outlined and announced at a later time. The new Gamecock head coach also said that further additions to the new staff would be announced as they become finalized.

Coach Spurrier, who was introduced as the Gamecocks’ new coach at a news conference Tuesday afternoon in Columbia, was traveling Wednesday to spend time with his family for the Thanksgiving Holiday. He will be back in Columbia next Monday.
