Columbia, S.C. –
South Carolina head football coach Lou Holtz conducted his Sunday teleconference and here are some of his comments. USC dropped a 20-16 decision on Saturday to #3 Georgia in Columbia … “Losing Demetris Summers like we did definitely affected our ability to run the football … Georgia did a lot of things up front on defense. They were moving all the time. I thought a few times we lost our poise and confidence along the offensive line, but you’ve got to give Georgia credit … Their secondary tackled extremely well. It seemed like every mistake that was made was due to a hard hit. They put a hard hit on Dondrial (Pinkins) and he fumbled and Marcus Lawrence put a hard hit on their back and he fumbled. It was a very hard-hitting game … Our team was hurting as much after that game as any of our teams have since we’ve been here. We were all very disappointed and we were all hurting … To win the close games, you’ve got to do the little things the right way. I’ve got 31 plays I want to show them on Monday that illustrate why it’s important to do the little things … We got hurt some on field position in the second half and we had a hard time overcoming that … (on the fake field goal attempt): We gave some thought to kicking it, but we thought the fake would work. The officials called off-setting penalties. I still haven’t figured that out yet. I’ve never seen a call like that one. He (Charlie Carpenter) just didn’t hit the field goal well at all. He had been in practice during the week. Maybe the game field is longer; I don’t know … (on the suspensions of Noah Whiteside and Travis Lee) We’ll have to address (their status) this week.”
Injury update – OG Jonathan Alston (left shoulder stinger); DS/WR Ike Crofoot (right lower leg contusion); OT Na’Shan Goddard (hyperextended right knee); WR Sidney Rice (hyperextended left knee); RB Demetris Summers (right ankle sprain); CB Tremaine Tyler (right shoulder stinger); CB Fred Bennett (low back strain) … all these players will be limited at practice on Monday … CB Johnathan Joseph (fractured right foot) is out.
Saturday’s Game – The South Carolina-South Florida game is set for this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium. There is no live television scheduled.
