Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams host Kentucky on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Carolina Natatorium. Saturday is also Senior Day for the Gamecocks as five members of the USC men’s and women’s teams are honored before the dual meet begins against the Wildcats. Andy Bradley, Dean Emmerton, Holly Hodges, Lauren King and Carolynn McHugh will compete for the final time at home for the Gamecocks.
A senior from Fairfax, Virginia, Andy Bradley has been one of the most dominant divers in South Carolina history. A school record holder on both the one-meter and three-meter boards, Bradley has earned All-American honors on both boards over the last two seasons for the Gamecocks. Bradley finished as national runner-up on the one-meter in 2003 and 2004 as well as third place and seventh place on the three-meter board at the NCAA Championships. In addition, Bradley has also been among the very best in the nation as a U.S. Olympic Trials Finalist and as a member of the 2003 World University Games diving team.
A senior from Charlotte, North Carolina, Dean Emmerton has been an integral part of the South Carolina swimming and diving team since coming to Columbia in 2001. Emmerton is a four-time NCAA Zones qualifier as well as a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Last season Emmerton also contributed for USC at the SEC Championships with an eighth place finish on the one-meter as well as 12th place on the three-meter board. Emmerton has also had success at the international level as a national champion in diving in his native South Africa.
A senior from Indianapolis, Indiana, Holly Hodges has been a top contributor for the Gamecocks at both the conference and national level. Hodges has placed as high as ninth at the NCAA Championships and was a finalist at the SEC Championships in 2002 on both the one-meter and three-meter boards with a second place finish on the three-meter. Hodges earned a spot on the U.S. National Diving Team earning a silver medal at the U.S. Outdoor Championships on the three-meter as well as a bronze on the one-meter.
A senior from Columbia, South Carolina, Lauren King will finish her career as one of the top divers in USC history. King is a record holder at Carolina on both the one-meter and three-meter boards as well as an All-American and two-time NCAA participant. King¹s top finish at the NCAA Championships came in 2003 with a seventh place finish on the one-meter. King has also been a member of several U.S. National Diving Teams and competed at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials.
A senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, Carolynn McHugh has competed at the highest level for Carolina and been a big part of the USC women¹s program since her freshman season. A sprint freestyle and butterfly specialist, McHugh was an All-American on last year¹s team that placed 11th at the NCAA Championship as a key competitor on the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relay squads. All three relays set new school records last year including the 200 freestyle relay that finished in fifth place at the 2004 Championships. McHugh is a two-time NCAA qualifier as well as a finalist in several events at the SEC Championships.
